Expand the capabilities of your laser engraver by adding the ability to mark metals such as stainless steel, tool steel, titanium and chrome. Available as a spray can, 100gram, 250gram, and 500gram solution containers, or tape, the CerMark solution coats the metal easily and produces a black mark after engraving.

How to use the CerMark Spray

CerMark Spray

The CerMark Metal Marking Spray Can will create black engraving on metal using a Co2 laser. The process works like ceramic glaze in that the laser heats the CerMark Solution and causes it to change color and soak into the metal surface. The CerMark Spray Can is a liquid that is sprayed on with an aerosol can. Applying the CerMark Spray to stainless steel, tool steel, chrome, pewter, titanium, aircraft grade aluminum, and other uncoated metal surfaces, can create solid black engraving. The CerMark Spray Can is the most convenient way to apply the CerMark solution to metals and will cover approximately 1100 square inches.
  • Step 1: Start with clean, uncoated metal. Remove any oil or grease with alcohol or spirits. With using the Cermark Spray no diluting or mixing is necessary. The liquid is already premixed to the right consistency.
  • Step 2: Spray the CerMark Spray Can on the metal. It is better to apply a medium and consistent coating rather than a thick and heavy coating.
  • Step 3: Allow 15-20 minutes for the coating on the metal to air dry. Once dry, the CerMark Solution will turn a light tan color.
  • Step 4: Engrave the coated metal area using settings of 100% power and a speed setting equivalent to your laser's rated power. For example, if you have a 25-watt laser system, use a speed of 25%, if you have a 50-watt system, use a speed of 50%.
  • Step 5: After engraving, wash the unused coating off the metal using water. A soft brush helps to speed the cleaning process.

How to use the CerMark Solution

CerMark Solution

The CerMark Metal Marking Solution will create black engraving on metal using a Co2 laser. The process works like ceramic glaze in that the laser heats the CerMark Solution and causes it to change color and soak into the metal surface. The CerMark Solution is a thick liquid that can be brushed or sprayed on to the surface with the Spray-Tool Kit - XUS 007 or a 3/4 inch long bristle paint brush. Applying the CerMark Solution to various metals can create solid black engraving. Some of the metals that can be used are stainless steel, chrome, pewter, titanium, and aircraft grade aluminum. The material comes as a concentrate and requires dilution with denatured alcohol.
Dilution ratio recommended for CerMark Solution:
- use two parts denatured alcohol to one part CerMark Solution for spraying applications.
- use one part denatured alcohol to one part CerMark Solution for brush on applications.

  • Step 1: Start with clean, uncoated metal. Remove any oil or grease with alcohol or spirits.
  • Step 2: Thoroughly stir and mix the CerMark Solution. The active ingredients will settle to the bottom of the container. If necessary, dilute the Cermark Solution with water or denatured alcohol.
  • Step 3: Brush or spray the CerMark Solution on the metal. It is better to apply a medium and consistent coating rather than a thick and heavy coating. A foam brush from any hardware store works well as an applicator.
  • Step 4: Allow 15-20 minutes for the coating on the metal to air dry. Once dry, the CerMark Solution will turn a light tan color.
  • Step 5: Engrave the coated metal area using settings of 100% power and a speed setting equivalent to your laser's rated power. For example, if you have a 25-watt laser system, use a speed of 25%, if you have a 50-watt system, use a speed of 50%.
  • Step 6: After engraving, wash the unused coating off the metal using water. A soft brush helps to speed the cleaning process.

How to use the CerMark Tape

CerMark Tape

The CerMark Metal Marking Tape will create black engraving on metal using a Co2 laser. The heat energy of the laser will fuse, or thermally bond, the CerMark to metal. The result is a very permanent, black engraving bonded to the metal. Available in 1, 2 and 4 inch wide rolls, the CerMark Tape works best when engraving on stainless steel. Also, engraving pieces with a flat surface is recommended.
NOTE: you will need at least a 40 watt laser to use this product.
  • Step 1: Start with clean, uncoated metal. Remove any oil or grease with alcohol or spirits.
  • Step 2: Apply the Tape, black side facing the metal. Press firmly to make sure the tape is free of bubbles and in direct contact with the metal.
  • Step 3: Engrave the CerMark Tape using maximum power (100%). Calculate the speed setting by multiplying the rated power of your system by .3. A 40 watt laser should use a speed of 12 and a power of 100.
  • Step 4: After engraving, remove the tape and clean the engraved area with a damp cloth or water.
